Love me; love my dog . . .
Don't think for a moment that I've
forgotten our beloved fur babies in
the midst of February love.
I was fortunate enough to grow up
with cats and dogs for starters, and
geese, chickens and turkeys for
enders. At the end of an era, we have
pics of my clan following me about . . .
my dog and cat, a goose, one black
hen and my turkey gobbler.
I say 'end of an era', as my brother
was awarded his first seeing-eye dog
at this time. The powers at be felt
that there should be no other pets as
they might undermine the discipline
needed for the dog to remain true to
his calling.
Needless to say, we all loved Sammy's
seeing-eye dogs. They gave him a sense
of freedom he had not had in a long time.
They were his, all his, and gave him a
love and fidelity like no other. As each
dog became elderly and finally passed,
there was sorrow in heaven; make no
mistake.
These wondrous dogs, or should I say
gods, are ever in our hearts and much
loved by our family . . .
love of many kinds
never to be forgotten
may you rest in peace
