Love thy neighbor as thyself. Mark 12:31
Growing up in a small neighborhood, my dad
never hesitated to stop and change a tire,
syphon gas into an empty tank, look under
the hood and put the kids in our car to warm
up while he worked on the engine. Alas, I
fear that this scenario doesn't work in today's
suspicious climes.
Still, from time to time, we hear wondrous
stories of a helping hand, shekels gifted and
good winning out over bad. I recognize that
there are those who wish to do good for no
recognition of any kind. Yet, we all want to
be safe abed of a night with harm to none.
A couple of days ago, the credit card of an
elder woman in front of me at the check
out stand didn't go through. I winked at the
cashier and slipped her my card. The old gal
never knew he card hadn't footed the bill.
It's fun to carry a few shekels in envelopes
and leave them in the hands of those who
need them. Send a check designated for school
lunches for those children who don't get them.
They need never know where the kindness
came from. Bottom line, gift and run . . .
recognition spoils the whole thing!
Remember to carry winter coats, gloves and
scarves you no longer use or need. Someone
asking for help can be handed a coat and you
are off as the light turns green. It's so much
fun to see all the ways you can give without
being caught. 'Tis a game much worth playing!
share and share alike
learning to enjoy the gift
smiles and tears all round
